Exhibit of drawings of Civil War kicks off

Civil War re-enactors mingled with guests at the opening reception for Beyond the Battlefield at The Little Art Gallery in North Canton on Saturday evening. The exhibit features Civil War drawings by celebrated colored-pencil artist Amy Lindenberger.

Steve Ball and Larry Stahl provided the Sounds of the Civil War musically, while Jane Cropley and Lynn Weinstein served refreshments. Ron Leukart of the 9th Ohio Battery of Light Artillery introduced his fellow soldiers, Mike Urban, Todd Morris and renegade Brad Keefer.

Nearby a proper Southern lady, Pam Allen, explained her family was divided by the Civil War. Allen has been a re-enactor for over 30 years and is president of the Civil War Ladies Auxiliary.

Nancy Stewart Matin, portraying Clara Barton, pointed out a drawing of the Battle of Bull Run as her favorite in the exhibit. Matin explained this was the battle when teacher Clara Barton became a nurse.

Tim Brown and Brenda Johnson admired the drawing, A Promise to Return, which they purchased as a wedding gift to each other. Also making wedding plans were Barbara Lesco and Mike Abbott. Among the crowd were the artist's daughter, Laura Durius, Tom Sluvinski, Larry and Nancy Hoover, Joyce Jeffries, Laurene Puls and her daughter, Emily, John Whipple and his son, Chris. The exhibit will remain on view at The Little Art Gallery, 185 N. Main St. in North Canton, until August 14.
